What the appointment is for
A weight management consultation is a structured conversation, not a sales pitch. The pharmacist's job is to understand your health as a whole and set out what is safe and appropriate for you. The NHS recommends that weight is addressed alongside diet, activity and any underlying conditions rather than in isolation, and that is the approach we take at South London Clinic, South London.
What to bring
A few things make the appointment far more useful: a list of your current medicines and supplements, any recent blood pressure or weight readings, and a rough history of what you have tried before and how it went. If you have a long-term condition such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure, mention it early — it shapes what is suitable.
How eligibility is decided
NICE guidance links weight treatment to your BMI and any weight-related health conditions, so the pharmacist will measure your height and weight and ask about your health. Prescription weight-loss medicines are only ever an option after this clinical assessment, and they are always paired with support around food and activity. We will not name or supply a specific medicine before that assessment.
Questions worth asking
Good questions include: what are my realistic options, what would each involve week to week, what are the side effects, and how will we review progress. A plan you understand is a plan you are more likely to stick with.
What happens next
If treatment is appropriate, the pharmacist explains it in plain language and arranges follow-up. If it is not, you still leave with practical, tailored advice. Either way there is no pressure to decide on the spot.
